Today Samsung Electronics officially announced the release of the Samsung Gear Fit2 fitness band in select markets around the world, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United States, and Spain. Moreover, the Korean company confirmed that the Gear Fit2 will be gradually released in more regions around the world.
The Samsung Gear Fit2 was introduced earlier this month as a direct sequel to the original Gear Fit band launched in 2014. Needless to say, the Samsung Gear Fit2 is a fitness and activity tracker, equipped with a GPS module, a heart rate monitor, and a slightly curved 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 216 x 432 pixels. It’s powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, and has 4 GB of internal storage. The smart wearable is available in three different colors, namely black, blue, and pink, and prospective customers can pick between two wristband sizes for a better fit: Small for wrist sizes 125-170 millimeters, and Large for wrist sizes 155-210 mm. As expected, the Samsung Gear Fit2 is equipped with a variety of sensors and can keep track of your workout / activity routine, and automatically detect whether you’re walking, cycling, running, or using a rowing machine or an elliptical trainer. The wristband has also been designed to monitor 15 different activities, including Crunches and Squats, Pilates, and Exercise bike. As you would expect, the Samsung Gear Fit2 works hand-in-hand with Samsung’s S Health application for keeping track of your activities, but alternatively, the wristband can also be paired with other, similar applications, such as Google Fit. In any case, the Samsung Gear Fit2 runs Tizen OS and is compatible with smartphones powered by Android 4.4 KitKat and above, as long as they have at least 1.5 GB of RAM under the hood.
The Samsung Gear Fit2 is priced at $179 and has already been pre-released through several online retailers including Amazon. As mentioned above, the gadget can now be purchased in several regions across the world, with more countries set to join the party gradually over the coming days and weeks.
