The office productivity app Slack has been doing well recently, to say the least. The company has recently reached 3 million users active on a daily basis, almost a third of which are paying customers. To keep the momentum going, developers are keen on constantly adding new features to its mobile tool, one of which has just arrived in the latest 2.13.0 update for Android devices. More specifically, Slack now offers full support for Android Wear smartwatches. What that means is that you’ll now be able to check out Slack notifications and reply to them directly from your smartwatch. Similar to most other modern messaging apps, Slack supports replying to notifications by voice. Yup, the future is most certainly here.
Apart from Android Wear support, the 2.13.0 update also revamps the way the app handles and displays notifications on your device, in addition to adding more Slack sharing options into your browser(s). The developers have also fixed a ton of bugs, including numerous problematic crashes and selection issues. The user interface also got through a partial redesign and some stuff including attachment dates in messages and Voice menus is now much more elegantly handled.
In late 2015, Slack has celebrated its second anniversary with an announcement of native video calls and several other major features. The company currently seems intent on tackling the likes of Skype and Google Hangouts to become the number one communication and productivity tool for businesses of all sizes and constant updates to all of its apps are an important part of that strategy. The next major update which is expected to hit Google Play Store by the end of summer will apparently make the Shared Channels feature an integral part in the overall user experience of Slack. In addition to that, changes to Slack’s billing system are also just around the corner and will allegedly make the process of paying for Slack’s premium services significantly easier. In addition to constantly developing new features and improvements for its apps, Slack has also recently formed an $80 million fund for investing in companies and businesses developing third-party integration for its growing services.
