Sygic's 'Flight Tracker' Feature Now Available To Free Users

Sygic, a company behind the eponymous GPS navigation app that has over 50 million installs from the Play Store, has now pushed out a new update to its Family Locator app that will now make the software even more effective in tracking the whereabouts of loved ones. In a move that is sure to please a lot of users, the developer has pushed out a new update that brings a very important feature to users of the free version of the app. The latest update now brings the flight tracking functionality to all users of the app irrespective of whether they’re using the basic, free version or have paid to get access to some of the premium features. The free flight tracking will come with departure and landing times, along with alerts about any possible delays and cancellations.

The app, meanwhile, will continue to operate on the freemium model, whereby users will still be able to buy additional features through in-app purchases, although, the basic Flight Tracker will now come free of cost after the latest update. The app is currently available on the three largest mobile platforms – Android, iOS and Windows – and has constantly been updated with newer features. Even before Sygic democratized the flight tracking feature by making it free, the app had real-time location tracking and the ability to send alerts to pre-selected numbers when their loved ones enter designated ‘unsafe zones’ that can be customized by each user according to their needs.

The company has recently been making some of its premium features available for free, with Heads-Up Display and DashCam being two such examples on its GPS navigation app (which is different to the ‘Family Locator and Flight Tracker’ app that’s been the focus of this article). While those features were made available in April to users of the free version of the app, the company also rolled out a new update earlier this month that now allows users to estimate their vehicles’ fuel consumption. Either way, coming back to the app in question, those who’re already using the free version should be able to get the new feature after installing the update and those who do not have it installed on their phones can do so by clicking through the link below the gallery.
