OnePlus has once again, decided to sell their flagship smartphone unlocked. Instead of selling the OnePlus 3 through carriers, the company is selling it unlocked in two main models. One that is available for North America, and one available for Europe and Asia. This is largely due to the different bands that are supported by wireless networks in these regions. Other than the bands that are supported, there are no other differences between these two models. The North America version does support “CDMA EVDO: BC0”, however that doesn’t mean that it supports Sprint or Verizon. Unfortunately, the OnePlus 3 supports the same bands as the OnePlus 2 from last year, which means we’re looking at AT&T and T-Mobile compatibility, only – for the US at least. The good news, however, is that it does support band 12 on T-Mobile. Meaning that T-Mobile customers will be able to use the low-band spectrum that T-Mobile has been recently pushing out throughout the country.
The bands that the OnePlus 3 supports, in North America, are as follows:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
WCDMA: Bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 8
FDD-LTE: Bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17
If you do decide to pick up the OnePlus 3, you’ll be able to pop in your T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card and start using the phone immediately. Like most unlocked smartphones, you won’t need to make any other changes or change any settings to get it to work properly on the network you use. Since the OnePlus 3 does support both AT&T and T-Mobile, this means it supports MVNO’s (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) that run on their networks. These include companies like Cricket, MetroPCS, Tracfone, Ting, Walmart Family Mobile, Simple Mobile, Straight Talk and many others. Making it a great phone to take just about anywhere.
The OnePlus 3 does feature a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 820 processor and 6GB of RAM. OnePlus has also included 64GB of storage, along with a 16MP rear-facing camera and a 8MP front-facing camera. All of this is powered by a non-removable 3,000 mAh battery. The OnePlus 3 is available now for just $399. While it doesn’t have support for Verizon and Sprint, it does still support GSM carriers, and for this price, the OnePlus 3 is definitely a phone worth taking a look at.
