In the world of Android there is always something new going on whether it has to do with app updates, new software, or new hardware. This past week, OnePlus officially announced and launched their highly anticipated flagship device for the year, the OnePlus 3. During the announcement reveal, OnePlus unveiled the pricing and the global availability of the phone which began on June 14th here in the U.S. for the price of $399 USD. In addition to OnePlus’ announcement this past week, there was also some big news surrounding the Android OS, as Google started rolling out the next version of the Android Developer Preview for Android N via both the factory images and through the over-the-air downloads. This was the fourth version of the Android N Developer Preview with one more to follow before Google releases the final software to the public.
It was also revealed this past week that Google is reportedly looking to make Android proprietary, although this is still just a rumor for now and has not been confirmed at this point in time. If Google were to make Android proprietary though, software updates would likely have a chance at speeding up thus causing faster adoption of the software on a wider range of devices. Speaking of software updates, T-Mobile began rolling out Android Marshmallow updates to the BlackBerry Priv this past week, joining the unlocked model in moving forward to the latest available software. More rumors have surfaced about Samsung’s next flagship device, the Galaxy Note 7, as mass production is said to begin next month.
