The Vernee Thor is perhaps the best smartphone that is available under $100. Unfortunately, it is only available in China right now (luckily for those in Europe, it does still support European wireless networks). For $100, you get quite a bit of good stuff here. We’re looking at a 5-inch 720p IPS display, powered by the MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor, with 3GB of RAM. Additionally, there’s a 13-megapixel camera on the back, with a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter here. We also have a 2800mAh battery powering the entire smartphone. The Vernee Thor is a pretty small smartphone, as you’d expect seeing as it is a 5-inch display, and has pretty small bezels. While some may love that small form-factor, it’s definitely not for everyone.
Surprisingly, there is a fingerprint scanner included on the Vernee Thor, it’s located on the back of the device, below the camera. While the fingerprint scanner is there, it doesn’t mean it’s a good one. Unfortunately, Vernee’s fingerprint scanner on the Thor isn’t that great at all. Something we covered in our written review, which is worth taking a look at if you haven’t seen it already. Now we’re not sure if this fingerprint sensor can be improved with software updates or not, but it’s almost unusable. Which is a bit sad, to say the least.
The camera experience is quite the opposite, actually. We have a 13-megapixel camera around back, which can take some amazing pictures. After using the device for over a week, we got some pretty amazing shots from the camera. Now it’s not going to compete with the likes of the HTC 10, Galaxy S7 or LG G5, but it will still hold its own. The Vernee Thor is on sale now for just $99, and it’s one heck of a bargain, all things considered. Now it does have a few issues, but then again, which smartphone doesn’t have any?
