With the official OnePlus 3 announcement earlier this week, the public finally got their first look at what to expect from the handset. In somewhat of a surprise though, OnePlus also announced that they were launching the device that day, and that customers would be able to pick up the phone for purchase through order on their website. To date, the OnePlus 3 is OnePlus’ most powerful smartphone and it offers up quite a lot to the consumer for a much lower price tag than you might expect. There are a couple of drawbacks here and there, depending on how you look at them, like the use of a Full HD display as opposed to a Quad HD, and the lack of a microSD card slot for expandable storage, which, may not be an issue for some as the OnePlus 3 comes with 64GB of internal storage as standard.
For those couple of minor setbacks, though, the OnePlus 3 is a veritable steal. For $399, you get an AMOLED display set at 5.5-inches, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with an Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB of RAM, and it carries impressive cameras on both the front and the back, with a 16MP rear sensor that has phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization, and LED flash, while the front showcases an 8MP camera for selfies and video chat. In addition to those specs, OnePlus brought NFC back to the device this year, meaning customers will be able to use the fingerprint sensor that’s also onboard for mobile payments. It also has a 3,000 mAh battery that supports Dash Charge, which is able to deliver up to over 60 percent battery life in just 30 minutes. On top of all that, the OnePlus 3 comes out of the box running OxygenOS 3.0 which is based on Android 6.01 Marshmallow. For everything that’s on offer, the OnePlus 3 is a pretty compelling device, and may just be one of the best on offer this year.
