Xiaomi had introduced quite a few smartphones since January. The company’s Mi 5 flagship handset landed in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and a number of more affordable devices were also announced. The largest handset Xiaomi ever introduced is the Mi Max phablet, and it was announced last month in China. Xiaomi had also announced the MIUI 8 OS alongside the Mi Max phablet, and it was just a matter of time before the company introduces international variants of both the Mi Max and MIUI 8. Xiaomi hosted a press conference in India in order to announce both its phablet and MIUI 8 OS. The event was held in new Delhi, and the international variant of the device sports identical specs to the Chinese model. The device features a 6.44-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved display, 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 128GB of expandable internal storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 650 / 652 processor by Qualcomm, and an Adreno 510 GPU is included here for graphics rendering. The 16-megapixel rear-facing camera (f/2.0, PDAF) is also a part of this package, and os is the 5-megapixel front-facing snapper (85-degree wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture). The fingerprint scanner is also placed on the back of this phone, and the device houses an IR port on the top as well. The 4,850mAh battery is also included here, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the device along with the company’s Android-based MIUI 8 OS.
The Xiaomi Mi Max comes in Silver, Gold and Light Gray color variants. The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model will set you back Rs. 14,999 ($222) in India, while the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs Rs. 19,999 ($296). The 3GB RAM model ships with the Snapdragon 650 64-bit hexa-core SoC, while the higher-end handset comes with the Snapdragon 652 64-bit octa-core processor. This phablet will be available for purchase through the company’s official mi.com site starting on July 6th, and the registrations kick off today.
