AT&T is Launching the Trek 2 HD 8-inch Tablet on Aug. 5th

AT&T – as well as other carriers – have been looking to push more and more tablets to their customers. Seeing as many customers already have a smartphone, the next step is to sell them a tablet. And by selling them a tablet that uses 4G LTE connectivity, AT&T can still collect some cash from them each month on that tablet. Carriers do often like to go out and make their own branded tablet, which is what AT&T has done here with the AT&T Trek 2 HD. This is an 8-inch tablet that the carrier will begin selling on August 5th, both in-store and online.

This tablet will have a no-contract price of $150. Those looking to pick it up on contract, can do so for just $0.99, or get it on AT&T Next for $7.50/month for 20 months. Specs for the AT&T Trek 2 HD tablet include an unspecified quad-core 1.5GHz processor from Qualcomm running the show, AT&T doesn’t mention how much RAM will be included here. But it’s likely that it’ll sport either 1.5GB or 2GB of RAM on board. It does come with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via the micro SD card slot. Powering this tablet is a 4600mAh battery, which of course is non-removable. AT&T quotes this battery as giving customers around 10.5 hours of battery life on a charge. Finally, the AT&T Trek 2 HD also comes with front-facing Dolby Audio speakers, and there are two of them there. Giving you some great sounding audio from your new tablet.

When it comes to the software on the AT&T Trek 2 HD, it’s running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Of course, as you’d expect, there will be plenty of bloatware included. Not to mention a slew of DIRECTV apps. In fact, AT&T mentions in the press release that this tablet would be great for watching DIRECTV when you’re not in front of the TV. AT&T will be adding the Trek 2 HD to their growing tablet lineup next week, on August 5th. It’s not the most high-end tablet out there, but there are definitely lower-end models available – like Amazon’s Fire Tablet – it’s right in the middle. It sure looks to be a great tablet for the price, though.
