Whether you feel the BlackBerry Priv was underwhelming or just what you were waiting for from the Canadian-based company, the Priv is here to stay. BlackBerry has even put out a new TV ad for the device to highlight it, although the video does not go into too much detail as it just s happens to be very short ad post. Really, that should be all that’s needed to get the consumer’s attention, and since this is a new ad for a phone that has launched months ago, BlackBerry’s aim wasn’t just to draw in excitement, but rather just continue promoting the phone as part of the new pop-up store that opened in Manhattan’s Brookfield Place.
As stated by BlackBerry themselves, this is what they’re calling a “virtual unboxing” of the phone to showcase it’s key features. If you’re used to watching unboxing videos from any number of reviewers, then you’re likely accustomed to videos which are a little bit longer than what you’ll see in BlackBerry’s ad, but it does just what it needs to and details the main offerings one would receive with a phone like the Priv, such as “legendary BlackBerry security” and of course, the Android operating system. As this was an ad meant to correspond with the opening of the new BlackBerry pop-up store in New York City, chances are it will playing on TV and around the area of the city while the shop is open. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see it playing on screens around the shop as well.
The Priv may have been BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone, but it won’t be the last according to recent rumors that surfaced detailing three new devices coming from the company that will all be powered by the Android operating system. BlackBerry also recently revealed that they wouldn’t stop using physical keyboards, although it’s unclear if all three new devices would have a physical keyboard just like the Priv, or if some of them would end up as touchscreen only devices. If you own a Priv on T-Mobile then you likely just recently received the updated software to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as T-Mobile began rolling out the software to the Priv in the middle of last month.
