Pokémon GO has landed and the question seems to be whether anybody can get away from it? Pokémon is a media franchise owned by The Pokémon Company, a Japanese consortium between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. The franchise, created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995, and is centered on fictional creatures called “Pokémon” in which humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train to battle each other for sport. It was very popular for a while but eventually was overshadowed by other popular games, such as Candy Crush.
Pokémon GO has revitalized the Pokémon craze, and even though the app is only officially available in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and now the UK – there are ways to download it on your device via sideloading. Now, a new report from SimilarWeb shows that Canadians are not waiting for Pokémon GO to officially show up in their app store, as of July 11, over 6-percent of all Android mobile devices in Canada have Pokémon GO installed, and there is no slowing down in sight. The study shows that other North and South American countries are joining in the download process – Costa Rica was at 4.6-percent, El Salvador is at 3.7-percent, Mexico is at 3.2-percent, Chile at 2.8-percent, Guatemala is at 2.6-percent, and Peru comes in at 2.3-percent.
The Pokémon GO craze is worldwide, and Europe is just as hungry for the game as the rest of the world. The percentage of installs on Android devices reached 6.8-percent in the Netherlands, followed by Belgium at 4.5-percent, Italy at 4.3-percent, Germany at 3.8-percent, the UK at 3.4-percent, and Spain at 3.1-percent. Of course, as the app becomes official in the Google Play Store, downloads are only likely to increase.
What is also interesting is that users are not only downloading the Pokémon GO app but are actually using it on a daily basis. When Daily Active Users was looked at, it was determined that almost 8-percent of the entire Android population in Australia used the app on July 11. New Zealand showed 6.6-percent, and the US population was at 5.9-percent – which are incredible numbers for a new app.
