Pokemon GO is proving to be a real unifier in these turbulent times. Everybody and their aunt seem to be playing the game, if only to check out what the fuss is all about. Everyone also seems to have a story to tell about the game if all the reports from around the world are anything to go by. With the game starting to officially get a wider release across the world (it just released in Japan earlier today), expect such intriguing stories to keep pouring in over the next few weeks as well. However, it’s not just regular anonymous folks with too much time on their hands who’re getting caught up over grabbing those little critters. Earlier reports have suggested that late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon, popstar Justin Beiber, supermodel and Sports Illustrated covergirl Chrissy Teigen and a whole host of other celebrities are into the wildly popular augmented reality game, but a recent report now says that Hollywood action star Cristian Slater is apparently also an ardent Pokémon hunter.
Now it remains to be seen whether the ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ star will ever reach the heights of the New York guy who recently claimed to have caught all 142 Pokémon found in the U.S., but the actor who’s currently starring in the USA Network drama series, Mr. Robot, recently revealed that he, too, is an avid Pokémon Go player. Slater’s love for Pokémon Go came to the fore at the Comic-Con International that’s currently underway at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. He was reacting to a question from a fan who asked the Mr. Robot panel if anybody from the show’s cast and crew played the game. To which, the actor reportedly gave a big thumbs up.
What followed that revelation was kind of funny. Slater’s co-star in Mr. Robot, Carly Chaikin, jokingly reminded the ‘Broken Arrow’ star that by playing Pokemon GO, he might just be handing over access to a boatload of personal data to the large corporations behind the game. The comment, in all possibility, was made at least partly in jest, but to get the joke, you’ll need to know the background of Mr. Robot – the TV show they’re working in together. The show is all about the dangers of unscrupulous corporates accessing personal data of private citizens, so obviously, somebody simply had to point out the irony of the whole situation to the actor.
