The upcoming Galaxy Note 7 is all set to feature some amazing specs, an Edge design, premium build quality and materials, and a brand new user interface. All of these things, of course, cost money, and the Galaxy Note series has never been the cheap route. The Galaxy Note 7 definitely isn’t looking to break that mold – sources suggest that the price tag at launch will be a hefty €849, or about $937, though US pricing could be closer to $950. Since the going rate for the Galaxy S7 Edge is about $789, or about €714, this price jump is quite significant, but also seems to be appropriate. Most sources are also saying that a cheaper variant lacking the Edge screen is out of the question for the Galaxy Note 7, which would make this rather princely rumored sum the price of entry.
If any rumored Android device coming to market would be worth such a price, the Galaxy Note 7 is, of course, a great candidate. Its bill of materials calls for a glass and metal build, an iris scanner, and a Quad HD Super AMOLED panel measuring either 5.7 or 5.8 inches. Aside from that, the build features seem on par with the Galaxy S7 lineup, including a frontal fingerprint scanner on the home button and a metal rim. USB Type-C is said to be on board, as well as a 4,000mAh battery that should keep the whole package going for quite a while. Speaking to the cameras, we see a 12-megapixel camera on the back, paired with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The internals for the Galaxy Note 7 are rumored to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 or an Exynos 8893, paired up with 6GB of RAM and between 32GB and 128GB of internal storage. No word just yet on the presence or absence of a MicroSD slot. Finally, the whole package is set to be protected from dust and water, gaining an IP68 rating.
The rather large jump in price between previous Note flagships, as well as the S7 series, and the Note 7 seems entirely justifiable, looking at the purported build quality and specs. Consumers will just have to wait and see if that’s the case, or if the price or specs could vary between rumors and the real deal. Samsung is reportedly set to make the official reveal for the Galaxy Note 7 in about 3 weeks, at which point we should know for sure if this is a phone worth waiting – and paying – for.
