Those that travel quite often will be pretty familiar with Boingo. It’s an internet provider that is available at most airports around the country. It can cost about $9.99/month, and is definitely worth it if you are a frequent traveler. This way you’ll have WiFi while you’re waiting on your next flight and can get some work done. Boingo does offer up free WiFi, although it typically has slower speeds and riddled with ads. However, those that use Amazon Underground will be getting Boingo for free for six months, thanks to a new partnership between the two companies.
Now there is a bit of a catch here. It appears that Amazon Underground users won’t be getting free WiFi on their laptop. But if you download the Boingo Wi-Finder app from Amazon Underground, you’ll be able to connect your Android smartphone or tablet to any of Boingo’s hotspots. You will need to create a free Boingo account, which means it won’t ask for a credit card number. So it won’t charge you once the six months are up. Always a good thing there. Boingo Wireless’ Chief Marketing Officer, Dawn Callahan says that “this offer is perfectly timed for the summer travel season” which actually begins this week.
For those that may be unaware of what Amazon Underground is, it’s the rebranded Amazon App Store, which brings you all sorts of free apps and games, which would normally cost a few bucks. It’s the default app store on all of Amazon’s products like the Fire Tablet, Fire HD6 and their other Fire tablets that they sell. Amazon Underground downloads don’t transfer to the Google Play Store, so if you do download a number of apps for free from Amazon Underground, that are paid in the Play Store, you’ll need to head back to Amazon Underground and download your apps and games again.
Boingo is available in about 50% of the top 50 airports here in the US. They are also available in a number of the larger and popular airports outside of the US. Making it easy for customers to easily connect to Boingo and have access to the internet while on the go.
