As mobile payments continue to rise in the U.S., more and more establishments will continue to add support for the payment solution to their POS systems so they can open up compatibility for customers who wish to use it. That support can only go so far though if you’re one of the customers which banks with an institution that Android Pay doesn’t yet support. The good news is that Google is steadily adding more and more banking institutions from around the country as they work with smaller, and more regional local banks and credit unions, and today they have just tacked more banks and credit unions onto the list of supported institutions for the service.
If you’re still not able to use Android Pay, it’s certainly worth giving a once over to the list again to see if your bank has been added in the most recent round. In total there are 19 new banks and credit unions which have been added, included in which are First Tech Federal Credit Union, 1st Advantage FCU, Alpine Credit Union, Cambridge Savings Bank, Heritage Federal Credit Union, Union State Bank and Fargo, as well as others. As stated above, these are mostly regional banks and credit unions and not institutions which are national, although some like First Tech Federal are spread across more than just a couple of states.
While today’s added support focuses on just a handful of U.S. banks and credit unions, 19 is a pretty small addition compared to the update that Google just went through at the end of June, which saw a whopping total of 115 U.S. banks that were added to the list of supported institutions for the Android Pay app. Adding more banks is not Google’s only missions of course, as they just recently expanded the Android Pay service to Australia back on July 14th. Having said that, all of the banks which have added support for Android Pay as of last month should be accepted in the app if users were to try. In regards to today’s update, there are some which may be lagging behind a little bit, and users may find that they will have to be patient in adding in their bank cards.
