Earlier today, Samsung officially and finally took the wraps off of the new Galaxy Note 7, the long-awaited update to last year’s Galaxy Note 5. Never mind the missing sixth iteration, this latest incarnation is sure to be a big hit with core fans of the series. With a new, slightly-curved display on both left and right sides and some extra features that add to the overall Galaxy Note experience, the Galaxy Note 7 is easily one of the best devices that Samsung has ever made, and we’ve been lucky enough to attend the event and take a look at what all the fuss is about.
Available in a range of new colors, including Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx the Galaxy Note 7 is certainly a looker, and it only weighs 168g at that. Despite its sizeable 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy Note 7 comes in at just 153.5mm x 73.9mm x 7.9mm and in the hand felt pretty light and easy to handle. The curved edges this time around are both front and back, with the display falling off both the left and right-hand edges and creating a bezel-free design. The three colors all look great, as we can see in the gallery below, and at this time of year the blue color might be a favorite with customers, but the black and gold options will keep people happy throughout the next year or two. We also have a video of it in action just below, too.
Under-the-hood here is a Snapdragon 820 – or an Exynos 8890 outside of the US – and 4GB of RAM. That might not be the Snapdragon 821 and 6GB of RAM that many were hoping for, but in our limited hands-on experience with the Galaxy Note 7, it runs well and feels nice and nippy. We’ve spent a little time with the rear-facing camera as well, but people should mostly expect the same sort of results as they did from the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but again, we’ll have to wait to put it through our paces properly. Below is a full gallery of images, which should help satiate some users until the device becomes available starting August 19th.
