The HTC Desire 530 may just be making its way to Canada, but it was announced back in February 2016. It will be coming to two carriers so far – Wind Mobile and Videotron for an unlocked price of $199. The HTC Desire 530 is available in Status White, but it can also be purchased directly from HTC unlocked in what they are calling “Sprinkle White,” which looks like that birthday cake icing with sprinkles all over. It will still cost you $199, so there is no real advantage in getting it directly from HTC unless you want the Sprinkle White.
The HTC Desire 530 is supposed to be a ‘fun’ device, designed with micro splash styling, making each one unique. It is a soft-touch polycarbonate (plastic) body that makes it easy to grab and hold on to and HTC even provides a lanyard strap to further personalize its look. It is designed for budget-minded users, first-time smartphone buyers, and younger people that will like the bold finish and colorful styling. The Desire 530 does retain a form of BoomSound, and it measures 146.9 x 70.9 x 8.3mm and weighs in at 140 grams.
The HTC Desire 530 packs a 5-inch Super LCD HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 780 pixels or 320 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) HTC picked the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. It packs 1.5GB of DDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal memory that is expandable via a micro SD card up to 128GB. An Adreno 304 GPU handles the graphics. A removable 2200mAh battery powers the Desire 530.
The primary camera is a straightforward 8MP BSI Sensor, auto-focus, LED Flash, and an aperture of f/2.4 that offers HDR and Panorama Modes. The front-facing camera is a 5MP BSI Sensor, a f/2.8 aperture, a 34mm wide-angle for selfies and video chatting and it even has a Voice Selfie, or a Selfie Timer for up to 10 seconds. It has the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, and a microUSB v2.0 plug for charging and data transfer. It has the standard 3.5mm headphone jack and the BoomSound experience through the earphones. It comes running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense, although no word on whether it will upgrade to Android Nougat.
