Keecoo has recently announced the K1 smartphone, which the company is claiming has been designed for women. The device features an unusual hexagonal design, said to be easier for the traditionally smaller hands of ladies to hold and use. It’s an interesting twist on a device with a 5.0-inch display, which is these days towards the bottom range of a typical Android smartphone. From the image it can be seen that the device has reasonably thin side bezels and of course, the top and bottom bezels have a definite point about them.
In terms of specifications, the K1 looks to be a typical mid-range device. That 5.0-inch display is an IPS 720p resolution panel, that is 1,280 by 720 pixels. The K1 uses the MediaTek MT6735P System-on-Chip, which is a 64-bit, quad-core processor clocked at up to 1.3 GHz and paired up with the ARM Mali-T720 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. There’s 16 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot that can take cards of up to 128 GB in capacity. The Keecoo is a dual SIM device, where one SIM allows 4G LTE connectivity and the other operates at up to 3G technologies. It is not clear if the microSD card slot is a dedicated slot or shared with one of the SIM cards. There’s a Sony-made 13-megapixel rear camera unit, capable of recording 1080p at 30fps, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The device is kept alive by a 2,300 mAh rechargeable battery, which the company claim will keep the device alive for more than a day. As regards to connectivity, the device ships with the expected Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and location technologies and it uses the older microUSB port for recharging rather than the newer USB Type-C port. Keecoo have given the device Android 5.1 Lollipop together with a suite of pre-installed Google applications, although the exact make up of these and how customized the user interface remains to be seen.
In terms of design, the Keecoo K1 looks similar to the Meitu M6 and from some angles, even the Oukitel K10000, but presumably considerably thinner. Whilst Keecoo’s current marketing states that the device is ideal for women’s smaller hands, this appears to be a way of trying to differentiate what is otherwise a somewhat mediocre handset. Keecoo have said that the device will be available in red, white and green but there are no details on pricing or market availability at this juncture.
