Until August 2, when Samsung officially announces its new Galaxy Note 7, all we can do is extrapolate conclusions based on rumors, speculations, and photos. It is not always a precise business, but a fun one, nonetheless – after all, we want to know something about this new beast from Samsung. Generally, these rumors start with the new device able to wash dishes, fold your clothes, and make your bed, until we finally can sort through the garage and get a clearer picture of its features. The Galaxy Note 7 started as a flat-screened smartphone, and then we found out that there would be a dual curved edge model as well, but recently, it appears that the Galaxy Note 7 will only come with the curved edge option. This fact is brought to us from Evan Blass of @evleaks fame, who has an excellent record of speaking the truth.
The idea of a flat or curved display is something that makes people react in many different ways – some will not buy the Note 7 without a curved display, and some will not buy it unless it has a flat display. It is true that in a perfect world, with the inclusion of the S-Pen, writing on a flat surface is certainly more desirable, but even with the dual curved edge display, there is plenty of room to write on the flat part of the screen. Our friends at PhoneArena took a survey of 1500 people and asked them – Would The Lack of a “Regular” Galaxy Note 7 Bother You? 384 votes, or 25.6-percent, selected “I always go for the “edge” models, so I don’t care.” 529 voters, or 35.27-percent, said, “If it’s priced the same as the Note 5 at release, it wouldn’t bother me.” A surprisingly large number of 587, or 39.12-percent, said, “Yes, it would! I don’t want a curved screen on my Note 7!”
With numbers like this, one might think that Samsung would decide to make both designs of the Galaxy Note 7, much like it does with its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. However, it appears from all indications that Samsung has decided to go with just the dual curved edge display on the Galaxy Note 7. It will be interesting to see how this affects sales of the device come August.
