Ride sharing is a wonderful thing these days as it not only allows more people to be off the road, but enables those who may not be in a position to drive or simply don’t want to drive, an opportunity to make it to their destination whether that be to the airport, a night out, or just to grab groceries. While companies like Uber have offered a more luxurious option to passengers since the beginning, Lyft has yet to bring its users a way to grab a more luxury ride. That’s changing with Lyft’s newly announced “Lyft Premier” tier which allows passengers to request a more stylish ride for those times where they feel it’s needed.
Initially, Lyft options started with shared rides, called the “Line” option, which were vehicles that had would allow a max of 2 passengers to share one ride. The next tier up is the standard Lyft, a vehicle with four seats, and finally there is the Plus option which were vehicles with six seats. Launching today in San Francisco, L.A., and New York City, Lyft Premier will offer passengers the option to request a high-end ride with four seats, which could be perfect for those times when something more classy or luxurious might be in order.
Although there are sure to be a number of different luxury vehicle options that will be available, Lyft mentions a few examples, like a Cadillac Escalade, an Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Lexus ES, so there will be options for both luxury SUVs as well as luxury sedans. For anyone who live in those three supported cities, Lyft has a promotion up which cuts 20% off of the first ten Premier ride requests if the code LYFTPREMIER20 is used, but it is worth noting that this is for new Lyft users only. Also an important detail is that the pricing is rumored to be nearly double that of a standard Lyft ride, so those who are wanting to take advantage of Premier should be prepared to spend. At the moment Premier is only up and running in the three cities listed above, but Lyft does mention that more cities will have the Premier option available soon. This doesn’t exactly give anything more than a rough idea of an arrival time, but “soon” could imply that more locations will get the Premier option this Summer. It’s just a matter of when exactly and what cities will be adding it next.
