A new Lenovo device has appeared on benchmarking website, Geekbench, which could be a new model for the Chinese manufacturer’s PHAB line up. The model carries the name of “LENOVO Lenovo P2c72” on the website and is based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, which is backed up by 4GB of RAM and the Adreno 506 GPU. This particular chipset has been designed by Qualcomm as a higher efficiency variant of the Snapdragon 617: it features eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, which may be clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, but it’s constructed at the 14nm process size. This means the chip produces less heat and uses less power compared with older generation processors. Another advantage of using a small processor size is that the electrons have less distance to go, which helps performance and the new Lenovo device scores reasonably well in the Geekbench test.
Unfortunately, there is no further information about the new Lenovo device beyond the information provided on the Geekbench website, which is sparse at best! It is clear that the device is running Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). From the chipset used, the new Lenovo device is a mid-range product: the Snapdragon 625 supports screen resolutions of up to 1080p or FHD. It supports cameras of up to 24-megapixels for still photography and 4K recording for video. The Snapdragon 625 also contains the X9 modem, which supports a maximum download bandwidth of 300 Mbps and an upload speed of 150 Mbps. The Snapdragon 625 supports high speed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC. This information confirms that the device is a mid-range unit.
There is no word on the size or type of the display, the battery, camera suite included, and additional hardware or software features. It is unclear how close the tested handset is to a production model and if there is an up-and-coming model, what regions of the world it will be available in, how much it will cost and what colors to expect the device to come in. This new device could be a follow up to the Lenovo PHAB line of devices, where the current generation now offers three models with one of these representing the collaborative effort between Lenovo and Google in the form of the first Tango-enabled device.
