Those who have grown up in the age of the Game Boy and the initial launch of the original Pokemon games will no doubt attest to the brand power that Pokemon has garnered over the years. Naturally, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to see that once the highly anticipated Pokemon GO mobile game from the developers of Ingress hit the public, it would be wildly successful. As it stands, that’s exactly what’s happened as Pokemon GO is simply crushing it on just about every level.
In the short time that it’s been released, it’s helped raise Nintendo’s shares, it’s getting people outside to be more active and it’s even helping some people deal with anxiety and depression issues. With such widespread acclaim and popularity sitting at the feet of Pokemon GO developers Niantic, one has to wonder how long it would take for Pokemon GO to become the most popular mobile game to ever grace the touchscreen of a smartphone or tablet. According to a recent survey from Survey Monkey, that time is now, at least here in the U.S., as Pokemon GO has reportedly surpassed the likes of the previous game sitting at the top of the heap – Candy Crush Saga.
While Pokemon GO is available in more countries beyond U.S. borders, it’s worth mentioning that the survey only measured U.S. players. Nevertheless, being the most popular mobile game in U.S. history is a badge that should be worn proudly with honor, and Nintendo as well as Niantic and The Pokemon Company are sure to be excited about such a fact. By the numbers, Pokemon GO has only edged past Candy Crush Saga as the most popular smartphone game in the states, recording around 21 million daily active users as of yesterday, where the reported peak daily active users for Candy Crush Saga in the U.S. was around 20 million. Still, that’s quite the impressive accomplishment. Time will tell whether or not Pokemon GO will be able to hold this particular standing, and if they can grow their daily active users here in the U.S. Having said that, at the rate it’s being downloaded it wouldn’t be too shocking to see it’s DAU numbers rise even more before the popularity starts to plateau a little bit.
