If a listing on the official website of China’s electronics certification agency, TENAA, is anything to go by, the country’s largest smartphone manufacturer, Huawei, may well be prepping the launch of a massive smartphone in the coming weeks. The device in question has been listed on the TENAA website as the Honor EDI-AL10, but online speculations indicate that it will eventually be marketed worldwide as the Honor Note 8. As per the listing, the smartphone comes with some fairly high-end hardware, but its unique selling point happens to be the 6.6-inch display panel that makes it more of a voice-calling tablet rather than a standard-issue smartphone for the most part, even in this era of ever-expanding smartphone displays.
While the massive screen will undoubtedly be the major selling point of the upcoming device once it goes on sale, it also comes with some rather compelling hardware, including a Quad HD (2560×1440) OLED display panel, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 4,400 mAh battery. Meanwhile, the TENAA listing also indicates that the device is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor, although the exact SoC remains a mystery. Online speculations, however, hint at the Kirin 955, which is a slightly more powerful version of the Kirin 950 that’s found on the Honor 8 smartphone, which was released by Huawei earlier this month. The rest of the tech specs of the upcoming phablet include a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary camera, while a fingerprint scanner can be found on the back.
On the software front, the device comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, but in all probability, will get a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat at some stage next year. According to TENAA, the device will weigh in at a hefty 219 grams and will measure 178.8 mm in length, 90.9 mm in width and 7.18 mm in thickness. All of which means it will be niche device, but such massive phablets are gaining in popularity in recent times with media consumption on smartphones rising rapidly. That being the case, devices like the Xiaomi Mi Max (6.44-inch display) and the Lenovo Phab2 Pro (6.4-inch display) are becoming increasingly common of late.
