Around this time last year, Samsung unveiled their Gear S2 smartwatch, their latest and greatest wearable. With regards to their devices in general, Samsung has always been known for packing a ton of functionality into their devices, giving them the ability to do many things that their competitors’ devices can’t do. That said, while Samsung smartwatches have always been rich in terms of features, some of the earlier models left a bit to be desired in the area of aesthetics. The Gear S2 was their first smartwatch from Samsung which actually resembled a traditional watch, and its design has since been met with high praise.
One of the interesting features that Samsung was able to implement with their new round face design was a rotating bezel that is used to control the device. This allows the user to navigate their device by rotating the bezel left and right. While this feature may sound a bit simple, it has been well received by consumers and has proven to be a natural and intuitive way to interact with a smartwatch and a new report coming through today states that the next evolution of the device (which is being named as the Gear S3), will include a rotating bezel as well. Other rumors also have suggested that Samsung may partner with de Grisogono, a high-end Swiss jeweler, on a luxury model of the Gear S3. Not much else is known about the wearable at this point. It is probably safe to assume that most of the hardware specifications will receive at least a minor upgrade. According to the latest report, Samsung is said to be planning to reveal the Gear S3 at this year’s IFA in Berlin, which goes from September 2-7. With the Galaxy Note 7 expected to be officially unveiled in just a few days time, on August 2, the latest details suggest that the Gear S3 will be the main Samsung attraction during IFA this year.
At this point, the price of the Gear S3 remains an unknown, as does its official release date. Fortunately, if the rumors prove to be true, the wait is almost over with all the details expected to come through in a little over a month’s time.
