Rumor: Sony To Unveil At Least One Smartphone At IFA 2016

The Sony Xperia X range is the latest smartphone line of devices to come from Sony Mobile. They are in effect, the continuation of the Xperia Z series, albeit with a new focus. Much like Motorola seems to have changed their Moto X to Moto Z, Sony went the other way changing their Xperia Z to the Xperia X. However, in spite of a newly named family, there is already quite a few variants announced including the Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and the Xperia X Performance. While the devices have been met with mixed reviews so far, they are the latest smartphones to come from Sony. Although, that could be about to change.

A new report today details that Sony Mobile might be preparing to release their next major smartphone. The details are a little light and there is no mention of where the information is coming from. Although the suggestion being made is that Sony will unveil at least one smartphone at this year’s IFA, which is due to take place during the first week of September.

The new smartphone in question comes with the model number Sony F8331. Which incidentally, is the model number for a device which recently showed up on GFXBench. Further adding to the speculation that this phone is on the way and Sony is preparing to announce it. The report goes a little further though by suggesting that Sony may actually announce more than one handset at the event with the model number F8332 also being suggested. Due to the similarity in model numbers, the clear assumption being made here is that they are the same family of devices and will be announced together. Much like the Xperia X range was announced at MWC earlier in the year. The report does not provide any additional information on the specs of either of the devices, although due to the GFXBench listing which surfaced recently, the specs for the F8331 model are listed as a 5.1-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 21-megapixel rear camera, 12-megapixel front-facing camera and Android 6.0.1.
