Sweet Galaxy S9 Concept Sports No Bezel, Huge Battery

Concept smartphones are a great way to see what direction the smartphone industry may be moving in. While OEMs do have their own design chops for their own reasons, many look to user input and concepts just like these at least a little, if only to gauge which features are a hit and which ones are a miss. Every now and then, a concept comes along that not only blows you away, but seems almost realistic while doing it, as if it were actually something you would find in a carrier store in a few years. If you’re happy enough with your current smartphone but current devices are a bit tempting, concepts like a Galaxy S8 concept from a while back and this new Galaxy S9 concept may serve to remind you why you’re waiting.

This Galaxy S9 concept features a bezel-free 5.5-inch screen with Gorilla Glass 4 on it, as well as on the back. That screen is curved, which seems to indicate that this concept artist wants Samsung to adopt the Edge model as the mainline Galaxy S. The phone is also features a dual camera setup on both the front and the back. Other than that, the design seems pretty standard for a Galaxy S flagship, but the specs tell the story of an amazing smartphone experience.

The dual front cameras would be 13-megapixel affairs, while the dual 21-megapixel back cameras sport dual-tone LED flash and a razor-sharp f/1.9 aperture, promising photos that blow the current king, the Galaxy S7, away completely. The lights would be kept on by a 5,000mAh unit. Stuffed into that thin body, this battery would likely be spread across the entire profile of the device, molded around key components that are a bit on the larger side. That huge battery would be keeping a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor humming along, paired up with an Adreno 540 GPU and 6GB of RAM. 128GB of storage is on board, which users can augment with a MicroSD card. The whole thing would be running on Android 8.0, as yet unnamed. The handset itself would be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and would sport the usual stable of connectivity options, with some nice bonuses. The full spectrum of current Wi-Fi tech would be on board, as would Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, an IR blaster, a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint scanner, as well as 3D touch. Fast charging and wireless charging are on offer, the handset can record 4K video at 30FPS, and the whole deal is sweetened by a 1gbps LTE Cat16 wireless chip to ensure compatibility with the fastest LTE networks today and the fledgling 5G networks that will be mainstream tomorrow.
