SwiftKey has been one of the most popular third-party keyboard apps available on Android for years. Recently, they were acquired by Microsoft, which got a lot of people wondering what Microsoft might do with them. While the rest simply uninstalled the app. Now the company has released a new app, and it’s their first one after being acquired by Microsoft. It’s named “Swiftmoji” and as you’d expect, it’s a keyboard that is going to predict your emojis before you type them in.
Similar to SwiftKey’s keyboard, Swiftmoji uses the context of what you’re typing to predict what will come next, as well as worldwide trends to predict the emoji you may want to use. One clever example of Swiftmoji’s prediction is that, if you’re typing about Beyonce’s latest single, it’ll offer up “queen” and “bee” emoji’s for your message. Swiftmoji is going to be a great app for those that typically use more than the basic emoji that everyone uses. It’ll definitely save you some time in hunting down that emoji you want to use. Currently, Swiftmoji is only available in English, but that will likely change. SwiftKey also says that the functionality of Swiftmoji is different on Android versus iOS. Android has it as a full keyboard replacement. While on iOS, it’s only available for inserting emojis.
This is an extension of a feature that is already available in the SwiftKey keyboard, where it will predict emoji for you. For example, if you type in “hot” or “heat” it’ll give you a suggestion for the flame emoji in the suggestions bar. Swiftmoji takes it a step further and predicts it before you want to use it. It’s pretty neat, and something that those who use plenty of emojis are going to love. It’s a free app, available on Google Play. SwiftKey hasn’t put a single in-app purchase within the keyboard at all. Always nice to see, especially since they are a Microsoft company now. Swiftmoji is available for most Android devices running anything higher than Android 2.3 Gingerbread, although the exact requirements are not known, and vary with each smartphone or tablet.
