Earlier today, Verizon announced some changes to their plan, which has been dubbed “The Verizon Plan” since they got rid of the many different plans they offered. The plan had surfaced earlier this week, and it wasn’t leaving a good taste in Verizon customers mouths. Today, they made it official. Essentially, Verizon is upping their data limits, but also increasing the price. They also introduced Carryover Data, Safety Mode, Data Boost and free roaming in Canada and Mexico. However, none of these new features are all that customer friendly, or solving “pain points” as they pointed out in their press release. That of course got the attention of T-Mobile and their CEO, John Legere. Now Legere is typically pretty outspoken when it comes to his rivals, and today was no different.
As expected, Legere took to Twitter to voice his opinion of the news. With the first tweet stating, “I love the price hikes, @verizon! It’s like you’re trying to get everyone to switch to @TMobile!! #keepitup”. Of course, he didn’t stop there. Essentially tearing apart every part of their announcement today. Including Safety Mode and Carryover Data. You may remember that Legere was trying to get AT&T and Verizon to abolish overages last year. Even skywriting it over Verizon’s headquarters in Basking Ridge, NJ. With Safety Mode, Verizon is getting rid of overages for those on their XL and XXL plans, which have the most data (read: those that are less likely to incur overages), while those on the S, M and L plans are stuck having to pay $5/month for Safety Mode, or getting stuck with overages. That didn’t sit well with Legere, “why not just eliminate overages?! Oh, that’s right… because you are greedy bullies!”
This Safety Mode feature actually led to Legere putting together a contest, where users can submit their caption to the picture posted on his Twitter profile (also shown below) and have a chance to win a 64GB iPhone SE. You just need to use the hashtag #VerizonBully.
