The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have been available in India for a little while now, but those in the U.S. looking to get their hands on the fourth generation of Motorola’s Moto G have had to wait just a little bit longer to get an official U.S. model. Today, both devices are now officially available to purchase in the U.S. Motorola initially announced the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus earlier this year, and international models of the Moto G4 Plus have been available on Amazon since the end of June. Pre-orders of the device have also been live in the U.S. for a little while too.
With those things in mind, it’s worth noting that since this is the official U.S. launch of the device, both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are labeled as carrier-friendly, which means you can be assured they will work on and be fully compatible with all four major U.S. networks including T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. Right now you can pick up the Moto G4 in both 16GB and 32GB options on Amazon, as well as on Motorola’s own website. The Moto G4 Plus however, does not seem to have an official Amazon listing just yet, so you’ll need to pick it up from Motorola or another online retailer such as Best Buy or B&H.
If you choose to pick up your device from Motorola, you have the benefit of customizing either phone through Moto Maker, which might be incentive enough for some consumers. Amazon Prime members may still choose to forego buying from Motorola as the phone may ship out much faster, so there’s the trade-off. A quicker turnaround on delivery, or the ability to customize the phone. Both the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus are very similar and carry much of the same specifications. Each device holds a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 CPU, which is paired with an Adreno 405 GPU for the graphics processing. The Moto G4 comes in 16GB and 32GB options, both carrying 2GB of RAM, while the Moto G4 Plus has 16GB and 64GB options, with 2GB and 4GB of RAM respectively. The Moto G4 Plus also comes equipped with the fingerprint sensor that can be used to unlock the device and authorize mobile payments using Android Pay. There is also a slight difference in the rear camera, as the Moto G4 carries a 13MP rear sensor, while the Moto G4 Plus has a 16MP sensor on the back, and they both hold a 5MP camera up front as well as a 3,000 mAh battery inside and they’re both running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. For the Moto G4, you’ll be looking at either $199 or $229, but if you’re a Prime member and you buy from Amazon you’ll also get a $50 Amazon gift card. For the Moto G4 Plus you’re looking at a cost of either $249 or $299.
