While companies like Google, Apple, and Samsung dominate the market of mobile payments right now, other large companies like Walmart aren’t sitting idly by and letting them take all of the marketshare for themselves. This led Walmart to announce and launch their very own mobile payment system last December, appropriately named, Walmart Pay, and gradually begin rolling it out to stores across the country. Walmart also recently launched the Walmart Pay system in 15 more U.S. states at the tail of last month, having opened compatibility for locations in Alabama, North Dakota, Kentucky, Nebraska, and others. Today, Walmart has announced that Walmart Pay is now available in all Walmart stores nationwide, meaning no matter what state you’re in, you’ll be able to use Walmart’s mobile payment solution instead of Android Pay or Samsung Pay, should you choose to, and should you shop at Walmart.
Unlike other mobile payment solutions such as Android Pay, Walmart Pay does not have its own standalone application. To access it, users will need to download the Walmart app and the functionality is live within the app after you set it up. With availability stretching out nationwide, compatibility reaches over 4,600 Walmart stores, and apparently customers are enjoying it as Walmart states that transactions for Walmart Pay have increased as much as 45 percent in the last week.
That’s almost half, and not a bad number when you think about the fact that Walmart hadn’t announced nationwide availability yet. In addition to the 45 percent user transaction increase, Walmart also states that 82 percent of Walmart customers who use the mobile payment system in stores would recommend using it to friends and family or other people that they know. That bodes well for Walmart as word of mouth can be a pretty powerful thing. Other statistics show that three out of four Walmart Pay users have rated Walmart Pay with five stars in the Walmart app, and 88 percent of transactions come from users who are repeatedly using the Walmart application and the Walmart Pay functionality. Walmart Pay can be used at any checkout lane in stores which makes it easy to get your shopping items paid for and out the door, and is compatible with any debit cards, credit cards, pre-paid cards, and Walmart gift cards, making it a little more versatile than other mobile payment solutions for Walmart shoppers.
