The year in tech follows a similar pattern each and every year, and one that’s perhaps even more rigid in the mobile world. At the beginning of the year we have the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas, followed by Mobile World Congress (MWC) around February or March and then there’s IFA in the Fall, around the beginning of September. This event, once again being held in Berlin, Germany, is to kick off next week. As we’ve pondered previously, this is where Android Wear as a platform could be getting its arguably much-needed shot in the arm with a raft of new releases. The question now is, could one of those be a new Huawei Watch?
The Huawei Watch has, undoubtedly, turned out to be one of the best smartwatches on the market and easily one of – if not the best – best Android Wear watches out there. With a myriad of different body and strap options – including some tasteful options for women – the Huawei Watch is one of the most traditional looking smartwatches out there, and it has an excellent display and feature set. It now supports voice calls from your wrist, as long as you’re connected to your phone, and it’s guaranteed an update to Android Wear 2.0. It is however, a little long in the tooth.
Not as old as say, the original G Watch of course, but it was originally announced back at MWC 2015 and launched around this time last year after months of waiting. Could Huawei launch a new Huawei Watch next week during IFA 2016? It would make a lot of sense if they did, after all the Huawei Watch was a way for the Chinese brand to break into the West, and it certainly helped put them on the map along with the Leica-certified P9. With Android Wear 2.0 launching this fall, and everyone else disturbingly quiet on their Android Wear releases, it looks more than likely that we will see such a device launch next week. If not next week, then we can assume that the firm will be looking to launch it early next year, just as they did the original Huawei Watch.
