Recently, AT&T decided to bring WiFi Calling support to their smartphones, allowing their customers to make calls over WiFi instead of their voice network. This means that even when you don’t have signal from AT&T, or have very little signal, you can still make a phone call as long as you have a WiFi connection. It was something that T-Mobile had on their network for quite some time, but other carriers thought they didn’t need it. Well AT&T decided that their customers did need it, and decided to launch it on the LG G4 earlier this year. Now after bringing it to a handful of other smartphones, it’s finally available for the LG V10.
The update that AT&T issued for the LG V10 today includes WiFi Calling, and that’s about it. Of course, there are some bug fixes included in this update, as there typically is, but no Android 7.0 Nougat here. Which would have been nice, considering it just started hitting Nexus devices yesterday – and LG will be the first to release a device with Nougat next month, in the LG V20. But it’s just WiFi Calling, no other goodies included in this update. If you own a LG V10 over on AT&T, then head on into Settings > About Phone > System Updates> Check for Updates and bring down your update. According to AT&T the update is about 368MB in size. Making it a pretty large update, but one that customers will definitely love to have on their device. Remember that AT&T only allows you to check for updates once every 24 hours. So if you’re not in a rush for the update for WiFi Calling, then it might be a good idea to just sit back and wait for the update to land on your device.
LG launched the V10 last fall as their second flagship of the year. It was met with quite a bit of praise, after the LG G4 had rave reviews earlier on in the year. The LG V10 was the first smartphone to bring manual video controls in a smartphone. Something that we still haven’t seen become popular – although Honor has it in the Honor 8. Not to mention the second display on the LG V10, which was met with skepticism. LG is due to unveil the LG V10’s successor on September 6th in San Francisco, which is just about two weeks away.
