It may be a week late in getting here, but the new BlackBerry DTEK50 should hit the Canadian smartphone scene on August 15, according to the BlackBerry online store. This mid-range performer is listed by BlackBerry as the “World’s Most Secure Android Smartphone.” One which continues BlackBerry’s ethos on security and privacy by looking to protect your private details, pictures, texts, and even your location. Not to mention, this is a smartphone which is due to be avaiable at a much more afforable price than the BlackBerry PRIV was, with the Canadian ShopBlackBerry store selling the handset for $429.
In terms of the more normal numbers, the BlackBerry DTEK50 sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels – which works out to be 424 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) It features scratch-resistant glass with an oleophobic coating to repel fingerprints and such. BlackBerry picked the Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor, with a quad-core clocked at 1.2 GHz and a quad-core clocked at 1.5 GHz. This is coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU to handle your graphic needs. While it also comes packing 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Although, it can be expanded to 2TB via a microSD card. The primary camera on the BlackBerry DTEK50 is a 13-megapixel sensor with a six-element lens, an aperture of f/2.0, a dual-tone LED flash, phase detection autofocus (FDAF), and the ability to record 1080p HD video at 30 frames-per-second (FSP.) It is also packing an 8-megapixel front-facing camera (FFC), wide-angle, with a selfie flash, and a f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video chatting. A non-removable 2,610 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 powers the device and it is expected that a 50-percent charge can be had in about 51 minutes.
The DTEK50 has most of the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, NFC, and a microUSB v2.0 port for charging and data transfer. In the box, you will find the smartphone, a 3.5 mm stereo headset, a microUSB 2.0 cable, a +5V DC/2.0 AC power adapter, and a sim tool. It is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There is no fingerprint sensor, but with the NFC technology built-in, you can connect with Tap and Pay to make mobile payments, as well as Android Beam, and Tap and Go.
