Today is the big launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7, but it seems as though Samsung may have underestimated sales demand even with pre-orders starting about two weeks ago. Rogers, Bell, Telus Wind, Eastlink, Videotron, and Koodo have all been taking pre-orders that range in cost from $0 with a contract up to $1,049.99 no-contract. However, in an interview with MobileSyrup, Samsung Canada CMO Mark Childs said they had a “huge response” for the device and a message was sent hinting that inventory may be too low to fulfill even those that pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 7.
Childs said that “over the coming weeks” Samsung will work to make sure availability on the Galaxy Note 7 is “wide-reaching” at a national level. Last year, Samsung made the decision not to release the Galaxy Note 5 in Europe, and it caused quite a ruckus. This year, Samsung did confirm that the Galaxy Note 7 would make its way to Europe with a September 2 release date, but with the pre-order demand so high, they may not have enough of the device to stock the store shelves. Samsung is assuring everybody that the company is working hard to keep up with the demand. It will be interesting to see how many Canadians get their Galaxy Note 7s on time today.
It is easy to see why the Galaxy Note 7 is in such demand – it is not only a favorite device but many Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 users are ready for an update or waiting for the dual-curved edge version that the Galaxy Note 5 skipped. While the curved display is not quite as pronounced as the Galaxy S7 Edge, it makes the new Galaxy Note 7 the sexist model to date. It adds some nice lines to the front and makes it look business-like but more modern.
The Galaxy Note 7 still sports a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display packing 2560 x 1440 pixels and 515 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) The display has the always-on feature to help save battery life. The US/Canadian model uses the powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor and 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage that is expandable this year via a microSD card. It is packing the same excellent camera found in the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge series. It packs a 3500mAh battery for power and has quick battery charging and even quick Qi wireless charging. The Galaxy Note 7 is IP68 certified against dust and water. This year Samsung included an Iris Scanner for added security. This device will certainly be worth the wait.
