The YouTube app is getting some small UI changes made to the description section of videos today which shifts around some of the buttons when playing a video, as well as adds in a new animation when extending the description. All of these changes are fairly minor and may not have been noticeable to those who don’t use the YouTube app very often, and while some users might not care for the changes to the button locations, the one thing that should delight even the most minimal YouTube app users is the new animation that happens when tapping the description arrow.
As with the animations in other Google apps, the arrow on the description section spins around and points downward when extended, and then spins back around and points upward when reverted back to a collapsed state. This is likely to be the most noticeable change to the UI. As for the button locations, the only button which has really been moved to a new spot is the overflow button which used to be located on the video itself, yet it now sits down below the video alongside the actions buttons for share, thumbs up, and thumbs down.
When the new UI changes pop up on videos, which seems to be server side and not a change which comes through an update to the application, users may notice that the buttons for thumbs down, and adding the video to a list aren’t immediately visible, but instead now only show up once you tap the arrow to expand the video’s description. When collapsed back, the only buttons in sight are the thumbs up and the share button. These changes can definitely be considered more minor than the revamped UI to the comments section in the YouTube app which started appearing for some users as early as the end of last month. These changes may or may not show up for some users today, and if they don’t the good news is that the changes don’t have an impact on the functionality of the app in a meaningful enough way to make the app unusable.
