This Moto Mod has been long on the rumor mill, in fact it showed its face well before Lenovo Tech World in June where the Moto Z and Moto Z Force were announced along with three other Moto Mods. Now the company has announced the device alongside the new Moto Z Play. The Hasselblad Camera Moto Mod will work with all three Moto Z smartphones, as you would expect, and it’s main purpose is to give you a great camera on the Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play, which also features 10x Optical Zoom.
Using the Hasselblad Camera Moto Mod, you can take images in RAW format through the existing Moto Camera app that is pre-installed on every Moto smartphone. What this means is that photographers can take images from the camera, in their RAW format and edit them in their favorite photo editor like Adobe Lightroom. RAW format means that there’s no compression here and no post-processing done either. So the image files are definitely going to be larger – that’s where the micro SD card slot on these three Moto Z smartphones come in handy.
The Hasselblad Camera features a 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. It’s a 1/2.3-inch size sensor with the pixels being 1.55um in size. For zooming capabilities, you get 4x digital zoom and 10x optical zoom. There is a Xenon flash thrown in for good measure, allowing you to get good pictures even in darkly lit rooms. You do get optical image stabilization for stills and electronic image stabilization for video with this Moto Mod. Some of the modes that are included with the camera are Photo, Panorama, Video, Professional, Night Landscape, Night Portrait, Sports, Day Landscape, and Back Light Portrait. Of course the Professional mode is the one that everyone is going to love. As far as video goes, it will shoot 1080p or full HD video at 30fps. Currently there’s no word on pricing for the Hasselblad Camera Moto Mod, but it should be released around September 15th, which is just a couple of weeks away. It does add quite a bit of customization to the Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play, which is exactly what Moto Mods are designed to do. The Hasselblad True Zoom will be available in the U.S. for pre-order on September 8th and it launches on September 15th, at the price of $299 through the Motorola website, and $249.99 from Verizon online as well as in retail stores.
