Google has just started pushing out a new update to Inbox by Gmail that introduces a handful of new features. While Gmail is of course still the main email client for Google, Inbox is the email client for those who want a little more organization and the built-in features and feel of a to-do list alongside their email to make it easier to get things done. With today’s update to the Inbox app as well as Inbox on the web, Google is adding in Github Project updates, as well as Trello project updates, so that users will get more detailed information in their emails that come through from either of those services. With Github emails, users will now see information like issues that have been filed for each repository as well as a summary of their code changes, and with Trello the emails will now contain details on what’s new with projects.
For those that use Google Drive alongside Inbox, it’s now possible to add Drive links into emails and manage the permissions for those links right from the email. In addition you’ll also be able to save email attachments in Drive so you can access them at a later date if you ever have the need to do so.
When sending emails though Gmail on the web Google makes it easy to move around contacts between the “to” section and the cc and bcc sections, and now they have added that same capability to the desktop version of Inbox. If users need to move someone from one section to another they can simply drag and drop contacts in the correct spot just like in Gmail. It’s now also possible to delete right from the inbox, a feature which Google states was highly requested by users. This update also introduces the ability to scan through your inbox for Google alerts, and if they happen to show up Google notes that they can be cycled through in a newsletter style making them easier to read and view at a glance. Of course, if there’s no important details included it can be marked as done and you can move on to the rest of the information you may need to check. Google doesn’t mention how long it will take for this update to roll out to all users, but it’s entirely possible that it could take a few days if it doesn’t reach everyone today.
