The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled earlier this month, and although the device is only going to be put up for sale officially on August 19, major U.S. carriers like Sprint and Verizon have already started shipping the pre-orders, as per earlier reports. While Samsung’s flagship phablet comes with a number of improvements over its predecessor, some commentators expressed disappointment over the fact that it sports just the 4GB of RAM. That’s because less expensive handsets like the OnePlus 3 already packs in a whopping 6GB LPDDR4 memory. With the clamor for a 6GB RAM variant growing by the day, a senior Samsung executive recently seemed to confirm that such a device is indeed in the pipeline, although, it will likely remain a China-exclusive, at least initially.
Of course, the device has already been certified by the Chinese electronics certification agency, TENAA, and has also been listed online as the dual SIM version of the Galaxy Note 7. Finally, putting an end to all speculation, the South Korean company has officially announced a release date for the new Galaxy Note model that comes with 50% more RAM and twice the storage as the standard-issue global version that sports 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. According to an announcement from Samsung Electronics, the device will be put up for pre-order in the country from the 26th of this month, and will go on sale from September 2. While there’s no word on the pricing front just as yet, earlier rumors had suggested that it will cost a whopping 6088 Yuan ($914) in the country, although, Samsung is yet to confirm that officially.
As for the rest of the tech specs, they’re expected to remain pretty much the same, including the 5.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The device will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and imaging options will include a 12-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera on the front, which should be good enough for selfies and video chats. It’s worth noting that the Note 7 will come in two different variants globally, and while the international version will be powered by an Exynos 8890, buyers in the U.S. and China will be offered a model with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 under the hood.
