The animation for Google Assistant on the upcoming Nexus devices has just leaked, showcasing what it will look like when you press on the home button on these new Nexus devices when opening up Google Assistant. At this point in time it is unclear if the animation will be limited to the new Nexus devices and those going forward, or if it will end up on older devices once they’re running on Android 7.0 Nougat. If you’ve been running on a Marshmallow or Lollipop-based device for any amount of time, you’re likely already very aware of the amount of animations that can be found throughout the user interface. With apps like Google Now there is an animation when opening up the app from the home button on the devices home screen, and Google Assistant is set to get its very own animation as well.
This isn’t the first time the new animation has come up, as it was rumored back in June that the new Nexus devices would be introducing a new home button animation. At the time, however, there was no actual animation present as it was just a still image of the colored dots and center white dot formed in a “flower” shape. With this GIF users actually get their first look at what the full animation looks like, which consists of the dots appearing from behind the white dot home button, moving to a flower shape before finally expanding outward into a line while the white dot home button disappears entirely.
Although the new animation should be present on the new Nexus devices once they launch, there is always a chance that the animation may not be used. It’s also been stated that the colored dots disappear if the user disables Google Now/Google Assistant on the device, which is suggesting that the dots are unique to Google Now/Google Assistant. While the animation can be fun to watch, it is just that in the end, an animation, and is by no means the largest leak regarding these new devices recently. It follows a leak from earlier today which describes new screen features coming to the 2016 Nexus devices such as a double-tap gesture to bring up Ambient Display and a Night Light mode to give the screen a red tint and filter out Blue light.
