The LG G5 was somewhat of a hit and miss, but apparently, Korea’s second largest smartphone maker is hoping that its next flagship phone – the LG V20 – will improve its earnings throughout the third quarter of the year. The company already confirmed that the LG V20 will be introduced on September 6 in San Francisco, but officially we know very little about the smartphone’s characteristics. However, leaks and rumors have started to emerge, and earlier today a series of LG V20 renders popped up on the web, reportedly showcasing the smartphone’s exterior design for the first time.
The images above and below have been passed along by Android Authority and prolific leakster @OnLeaks. They represent LG V20 renders depicting the alleged design of the upcoming flagship, but of course and as is the case with unofficial information, there’s no way to confirm whether LG is truly relying on this exact design. But assuming that the renders show the LG V20 as it will be released on the market, there are several characteristics to point out, including the dual-camera setup which seems to have been positioned horizontally, similar to the LG G5. A fingerprint scanner sits below the camera module, and the front panel seems to accommodate a rather large screen with thin bezels at the top and sides. There’s no clear indication of a secondary display in these renders but the source claims that the LG V20 will retain this particular feature from its predecessor. Additionally, the images show a suspicious looking button which, not unlike the LG G5, might act as a “lock” button for swappable modules. Although it is unclear from the renders, the bottom part of the device (which accommodates a speaker grille, a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, and a USB Type-C connector) appears to be detachable from the rest of the device, in order to make room for external modules to be connected. However once again, these are mere speculations, and on the other hand, the aforementioned button could act simply as a dedicated shutter key for the – presumably powerful – dual-camera setup.
All in all and assuming that these renders reflect the real product, the LG V20 might tone down the industrial design flaunted by its predecessor, which could make it more appealing for a wider range of consumers. As far as the smartphone’s hardware specifications go, no official details emerged so far but rumors suggest that the handset could sport a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip, 4GB of RAM, and a 4,000 mAh battery.
