Logitech POP Home Switch Is Company's Newest IoT Product

If using your smartphone is too cumbersome a task to control your smart home devices, then Logitech may have the answer you have been looking for with its POP Home Switch. IoT devices becoming more popular, and Logitech is looking to make controlling your home that much more convenient.  Now with just the touch of a button, anyone can control multiple devices in your home.

The POP Home Switch is a small device that is placed anywhere in your home.  Using the mobile app, the user will connect the POP Home Switch to the home’s WiFi network.  This is a similar setup for most smart home devices as these devices can emit their own WiFi signal.  The user will then connect to that signal and tell the POP Home Switch how to connect to the home WiFi.  This type of setup is typically pretty painless and takes just a few minutes.

Once the POP Home Switch is connected to WiFi, the user will be able to program the POP Home Switch to do a number of things.  The POP Home Switch is compatible with several existing smart home products including LIFX, Philips Hue, Lutron, Insteon, IFTTT and Samsung SmartThings.  The user can enable each POP Home Switch to complete an action using one of three different triggers, a single press, double press or long press.

For example, you can set the single press to turn your lights on and off using Phillips Hue.  A double press might lock your front door.  Or a long press can set up “movie mode” by turning down the lights, turning on the TV and closing the blinds.  That type of action would require the user to combine multiple devices into a single trigger using what Logitech is referring to as “Recipes”.  Control of your home theater will be possible in conjunction with a Harmony Hub-Based Remote.

The Logitech POP Home Switch Starter Pack will be available for purchase at the end of the month for $99.99 along with the POP mobile application.  The starter pack will consist of two POP Home Switches and a hub to connect them.  Additional POP Home Switches will be available for purchase for $39.99.  The POP Home switches are battery powered, with Logitech claiming 5 years of battery life.   They will also be available in four different color options: white, coral, teal and alloy.
