Manu Jain: Xiaomi To Ramp Up Smartphone Production In India

Xiaomi is currently China’s fourth largest smartphone manufacturer as far as Q2 2016 China shipments are concerned. This info is based on IDC’s latest market data, and it seems like Xiaomi is trying to catch up to Huawei, OPPO and Vivo, but they’re not doing all that great at the moment. In any case, Xiaomi still has to release their Mi Note 2 phablet, the Redmi 4 mid-ranger and a number of other devices before the end of this year, so we’ll have to wait in order to see what will happen from this point on. That being said, China is the main market for Xiaomi, but the company has been heavily pushing into the Indian market as well. The company had started manufacturing devices in India a while back as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and it seems like they’re planning to ramp up their production in the country, read on.

According to the chief of Xiaomi India, the company is in talks with Foxconn in order to make this happen, this is what Manu Jain had to say: “We are in talks with Foxconn for increasing the number of lines at their factory in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. We are also planning to have two more plants in India”. Xiaomi not only plans to ramp up smartphone production, but also increase service center network, and on top of it all, they will also add more devices to their portfolio in India, because as you know, not all Xiaomi products that are available in China can be purchased in India. “For the past four quarters, we are selling more than one million smartphones in India and over 75 percent of them are made at Foxconn’s facility in Sri City,” add Manu Jain. This suggests that Xiaomi’s sales in India have been really good, and the company is trying to take advantage of the situation, of course. On top of all this, Manu Jain has also mentioned that Xiaomi is selling 90% of their devices in India through online sales, and is going to push offline channels slowly, no rush.

Xiaomi is constantly expanding in India, and it makes all the sense in the world considering the fact that the Chinese market is quite saturated at the moment, and Xiaomi needs to find their customers elsewhere in order to get back on the right path, and keep on growing.
