MediaTek Powered Smartwatch Polar M600 Announced

The smartwatch industry is rising as fast as the smartphone industry did, with new gadgets coming every month. A Finnish company, Polar, announced it’s first Android Wear smartwatch Polar M600 which is more than just a smartwatch. The company has described it as a “sport optimized smartwatch”, which also helps you with your daily fitness needs. The device features a 1.3-inch TFT display with the pixel resolution of 240 x 240 and a pixel density of 260 PPI. In terms of power, the device is the first smartwatch which is powered by MediaTek’s newly launched MT2601 SoC which is designed specially to power the wearable platform.

MediaTek a very well know chip manufacturer from Taiwan which powers more than 220 million Android smartphones all over the world. MediaTek has already established its market in the smartphone sector and now trying its hands in the smartwatch industry too. “MediaTek takes pride in designing technology for our customers like Polar to bring innovative products to consumers that can enhance everyday life,” said JC Hsu, MediaTek’s Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the IoT business unit. Now talking about Polar M600, the device will give you 4GB of internal storage with 512MB of RAM like most of the smartwatches do. It packs a 500mAh battery which is enough for a day with normal use or 8 hours while training. The device also comes with an optical heart-rate sensor, GPS, Accelerometer and Vibration motor which helps you to keep track of your activities.

The device comes with a new and unique smart coaching feature which helps you to achieve your daily activity goals, like activity guide which shows how active you’ve been during the day and gives guidance for reaching daily activity goals. Smart calories let you know exactly how many calories you’ve burned. Running program helps you to prepare yourself for a half marathon or a marathon. Sleep mode automatically tracks your sleep time and so on. Polar M600’s activity tracking can track up to 5 different types of activities like Resting, Sitting, Low which includes standing or light household work, Medium which includes walking or similar activities and High which includes jogging, running or other high intense activities.

The device has the Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity option, that way you can keep your smartphone at home and can go for a run without any worries. The device runs Android Wear and is compatible with Android and iOS devices starting from €349. Finally, the Polar M600 is IPX7 certified and suitable for swimming up to 10 meters.
