Xiaomi has been one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China for quite some time now. This company has managed to sell over 70 million smartphones in 2015, which made it the largest smartphone manufacturer in its homeland, though things are a bit different now. Xiaomi has, according to some projections, been the 4th largest OEM in China (as far as shipments go) in the second quarter this year, behind Huawei, Vivo and OPPO. That being said, Xiaomi is still selling plenty of phones, but the competition is fierce in China.
Anyhow, the company had introduced a number of devices this year, including a new version of their Android-based operating system, MIUI 8. The all-new version of the company’s OS was announced back in May, after which Xiaomi released an open beta of this OS, and they, at the same time, announced that the stable release will become available on August 16th. The company had to postpone its launch to August 23rd, which managed to anger some fans, even though they only postponed it for a week. Well, those fans surely won’t be happy now either considering Xiaomi once again postponed the release of the newest MIUI version. Xiaomi said that MIUI 8 is still coming soon, but the launch of the stable version of this OS has been postponed until the end of August, which could mean they need another week to spruce things up, though they did not mention the exact launch date this time around.
So, what’s new in MIUI 8? Well, quite a few things actually, the company has more or less redesigned the OS, they’ve used a totally new set of colors, and made it more ‘flat’ through and through. A ton of new features have also been added here, and the OS now finally has a proper volume control center, and the notification panel also looks much better now. The ‘Dual Apps’ feature is also available in MIUI 8, and you can actually set up two different accounts on the device which can be tied to a completely different set of apps. It is also worth mentioning that the company plans to begin developing MIUI 9 soon, they’ve already asked for feedback from consumers.
