HTC has been struggling as of late. Despite putting out some pretty fantastic smartphones in the past few years, they have been unable to get users to buy them, and their revenue has steadily decreased month after month. After the HTC 10 launched earlier this year, it was met with glowing reviews from both product reviewers and consumers alike. But that wasn’t enough to take customers away from Samsung and their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. Now, HTC appears to be preparing to release a couple of new smartphones under the “Desire” brand. A name that hasn’t been used much in the US until recently, but one that has been very popular in Europe and other emerging markets.
A report coming out of Venture Beat today says that the company is preparing a HTC Desire 10 Pro and a HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle. However the publication was only given information on the Desire 10 Lifestyle which will sport a 5.5-inch display. That panel is a 720p display, so this is obviously not a high-end smartphone, but one that should be cheaper. The report notes that HTC is going to sell this in two configurations: 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 2GB RAM/16GB storage. Additionally, it’s going to sport a 13-megapixel camera on the backside, with a single LED flash. The front-facing camera will be a 5-megapixel shooter. With audio, HTC is going to be bringing Boomsound Hi-Fi Edition here. Using stereo speakers and bringing 24-bit system audio. The report also says that this model will be shipping with higher quality earbuds. A bit of a surprise since most smartphones don’t ship with earbuds period.
The HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle is said to be available in several different colors, however they will all sport a metallic gold trim on the edges. As well as around the camera lens, flash and antenna cutouts. It likely won’t sport the speckled appearance the the Desire 530 has, and instead sport a matte color finish. The Desire 10 Lifestyle and the Desire 10 Pro are both expected to launch near the end of September. With IFA happening at the beginning of September, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the two announced in Berlin.
