It appears that last year’s HTC One A9 was a big enough seller for HTC that the company is announcing its sequel later this week at IFA 2016 in Berlin, Germany. It’s dubbed the HTC One A9s, using the same naming convention that Apple does with their iPhones. According to VentureBeat, the company is slated to be announcing the device on September 1st at their press event ahead of IFA. The publication didn’t share much info in regards to specifications, but they did share that the rear camera is 13-megapixel shooter with the front being a 5-megapixel UltraPixel camera.
The device, which you can see in the image above, is very much the same as what we saw with the One A9 last year. A few things have been moved around though, like the sensors, camera lenses and the flash. For instance the camera and flash on the One A9 was in the center, it’s now in the upper left-hand corner. Otherwise the One A9s is pretty much the same, in terms of design. Colors being shown here are white, black, gold and a bluish silver. Another thing to note about the One A9s is that it appears that HTC is continuing the trend that started with the flagship, HTC 10, and that is eliminating the branding on the front. Giving everyone a nice clean front for this smartphone, something that users will definitely appreciate.
No other information has surfaced at this time regarding the One A9s, but with it being announced this week, more information should be appearing rather soon. The HTC One A9 launched last fall and was the first device to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow after the launch of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. It was met with a lot of criticism, mainly due to how similar it was to the iPhone, and it looks like they are continuing that trend, even with the naming here. The HTC One A9 wasn’t a high-end flagship, but more of a mid-range high-end smartphone. It ran the Snapdragon 617 with 3GB of RAM (or 2GB of RAM, depending on which storage size you choose), so expect specs pretty similar to that. Something like the Snapdragon 652 with 4GB of RAM wouldn’t be out of the question.
