Samsung’s Galaxy A series was first launched on the market in the year 2014 as a mid-range family of smartphones. One year later in December 2015, the company introduced the second generation Galaxy A lineup comprised primarily of three refreshed smartphones, namely the Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5, and Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 Editions. Now, fresh evidence suggests that Samsung is already working on the third iteration of its mid-range series for the year 2017.
As readers might be aware, yesterday a new Samsung Galaxy A5 model was spotted in the Geekbench database bearing model number “SM-A520F”, and featuring an extra GB of RAM compared to the ongoing 2016 model, along with a different system-on-chip, namely Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7880 chipset as opposed to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC. Apparently the mysterious device is part of the 2017 Samsung Galaxy A lineup, and according to sources of SamMobile the 2017 series will also include new Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7 variants, which will be identified by model numbers “SM-A320F” and “SM-A720F” respectively. However, up until now only the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) was spotted in the wild, on both Geekbench and on the import-export tracking website “Zauba” in India, where the terminal has been shipped (on the 26th of August) for evaluation and research & development purposes.
Although there aren’t a lot of details to go by in regards to the alleged 2017 Samsung Galaxy A series, it’s logical to expect that the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will not be the only model in the series to have been treated with a different SoC and more RAM. We can only assume that the Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7 2017 Editions will also take advantage of more horsepower under the hood, and it’s possible that the changes won’t stop with the internal hardware. The Samsung Galaxy A 2016 lineup presented a much more refined design compared to the 2015 series, and thus it wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung will improve the overall design even further with the upcoming models. As yet there’s no word in regards to the smartphones’ market release, but judging by the launch timeframes of the previous models, the Samsung Galaxy A (2017) series could be introduced anywhere between October 2016 and January 2017.
