Android’s Security Updates are designed to improve security on smartphones which run on Android. All changes take place under the hood and consist of vulnerability patches, meaning that these updates should take top priority for any Android smartphone user wanting to access online services and content in a secure environment. Well its almost the end of August and all unlocked versions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge users in the US will be receiving the August Security Patch in coming days as Samsung has begun its rollout of the security update. Do take note that this update is for devices which are unlocked, meaning this update doesn’t apply to devices which are locked to carriers in the US.
In the past, South Korean electronics giant, Samsung made a promise that certain devices in its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series will receive Android security updates each month. The company has been delivering but it has been taking some time. This could be due to the manufacturer taking some time in customizing the software update before releasing it to its devices. Google delivers the security updates to manufacturers at the start of each month and its the smartphone manufacturer’s job to tweak the security update to its liking. With this new update, an issue that results in malware being installed on a device if the SideSync application is activated before completing the Setup Wizard will be addressed. As this is only an incremental update, the Android version on your device will remain as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
If you would like to check whether the August security update is ready for your device, all you have to do is proceed to Settings, select About Device, tap on Software Update, and tap the option titled Download Updates Manually. On the other hand, you could wait for the system to prompt you to install the security update when it is available for your device. However, for that to happen, you will need to have at least 50% of battery life remaining in your device or it is plugged into an outlet. As the August security update is being delivered over-the-air (OTA), it might take a few days for you to receive it.
