Although the hype surrounding the Galaxy Note 7 has overshadowed just about everything else in the world of Android smartphones over the past few weeks, Samsung has been quietly working away at a number of mid-range handsets that it hopes will make their presence felt in a segment that’s becoming increasingly critical in the smartphone business globally. A couple of those devices have been well-documented already, and includes the 2016 renditions of the Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7. Thanks to the GFXBench listing of a device with model number SM-G5510, it is now apparent that the company is looking to bring at least one more affordable smartphone to the market fairly soon.
Of course, this is not the first we’re hearing of the SM-G5510. This particular device, along with another one numbered SM-G5520 had, only recently, received Wi-Fi certification, and while there’s no official word from Samsung about either of the two devices, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine that the two will actually be different versions of the same smartphone. Either way, the Wi-Fi certification may not have disclosed a whole lot about the SM-G5510, but the GFXBench listing now certainly gives us the chance to take a more detailed look at the upcoming device, which will apparently come with a 4.8-inch 720p display.
The device will be powered by an unidentified Qualcomm chip with a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU clocked at 1.4GHz. The SoC will also have an Adreno 308 GPU as part of the package, meaning, there’s a very good chance that we’re talking about the Snapdragon 425 powering the upcoming Samsung handset. It will also come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage and run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. As for the two cameras, the primary shooter on the back is listed as being a 12-megapixel unit, although it’s likely to be a 13-megapixel affair in reality. The front one, meanwhile, will likely have a 5-megapixel sensor, although GFXBench lists it as being 4.7-megapixels. Both cameras will come with 1080p recording capabilities, but with not a whole lot more to go by at this stage, we’ll have to wait to find out more about this device in the coming weeks.
