Quality flip phones, or also known as clamshell phones are pretty hard to find nowadays especially one with flagship specs. Well, Samsung has been trying to make it easier for all the clamshell phone lovers out there since the company announced its Samsung Galaxy Golden 3 or better known as the Samsung W2016 in China back in November of last year. It was a flip phone which came with high end specs of 2015 such as an Exynos 7420 processor which was backed by 3 GB of RAM mated with 64 GB of internal storage. However, it seems like a successor to the Samsung W2016 is on its way as a flip phone listed as the Samsung SM-W2017 has been spotted on Weibo complete with specs from AnTuTu.
In fact, the Samsung W2017 which is codenamed as the Samsung ‘Veyron’, was spotted online just yesterday, on benchmark website, GeekBench. However, the specs which leaked on GeekBench were not as detailed as the specs discovered on AnTuTu. Coming to the specs leaked on the AnTuTu benchmark, the clamshell device is expected to pack a full HD 4.2-inch display. The device is also expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 while graphics will be handled by the Adreno 530 GPU. In terms of storage, the W2017 is expected to come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which happens to be the memory configuration of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. In the GeekBench benchmark, information about the cameras the W2017 will be sporting was not disclosed, but information about them is included in the AnTuTu benchmark. The W2017 is expected to sport a 12-megapixel camera on its rear, while the front is expected to receive a 5-megapixel camera.
On the software side of things, the device is expected to be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, which means it won’t be Samsung’s first device to run on Android 7.0 Nougat. As for the release date and price, neither can be said as no leaks or rumors surrounding them have surfaced so far. The clamshell phone is expected to be announced in China later this year, just like its predecessor.
